Warren Smulowitz- Managing Partner

Since 2018, Warren has been the Founding Partner of Birch + Bond a Green Energy & Health Care focused Private Equity firm driven by risk mitigation and value creation. He is currently advising multiple private and public health care companies.

In 2013 Warren relocated back to Toronto from New York City to lead a Wealth Management and Investment Banking practice at the Bank of Montreal. In his short time at Nesbitt Burns he built the largest producing US book of business in the firm. Warren was named top producer for Nesbitt Burns Securities Limited two years in a row.

Warren previously consulted for a large multi-billion dollar European Family Office where he assisted their investment banking platform in North America and was responsible for acquisitions, dispositions, asset management, due diligence, and initiating debt and equity transactions.

Warren has a Masters Degree from NYU in Public Finance. Warren served proudly as an active Board Member and Trustee to MFTA, a division of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs and was awarded the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee medal for his service and contribution to the Canadian Coalition Against Terrorism.

Warren lives in Toronto with his wife and three children.

Sharon Eisenberg, Ph.D. Director of Healthcare

Sharon Eisenberg, Ph.D., has been an influential figure in the private equity sphere since 2019, with a specialized focus on healthcare and green energy sectors. With a robust foundation in biology and a Ph.D. in Neurobiology from the George S. Wise Faculty of Life Sciences at Tel Aviv University, Israel, her expertise spans across conducting critical cell biology research and leading projects that push the boundaries of oncogenic protein studies. Her work, characterized by the use of advanced live cell imaging and biochemical methods, has not only contributed to peer-reviewed scientific reports but also established her as a leader in medical operations and strategic partnerships.

Throughout her career, Sharon has demonstrated an exceptional ability to manage complex projects, guide multinational research teams, and foster productive international collaborations with top-tier research labs. Her adeptness at securing and managing significant research grants from European and Israeli Research Councils underscores her prowess in both scientific and financial stewardship. Sharon's contributions to the medical research community are further highlighted by her presentations at numerous national and international scientific meetings, where she shares her findings and insights.

Sharon holds an MSc in Biology, awarded Summa Cum Laude, and a BSc in Life Sciences, Magna Cum Laude, from Tel Aviv University. Her academic excellence is recognized through prestigious awards, including postdoctoral and Ph.D. fellowships from RESTRACOMP, the Trozky Foundation, and the Lev-Ziyon Foundation.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Sharon is committed to making a difference in her community. She coordinated the Perach Project, offering scientific after-school programs to children in low-income areas, showcasing her dedication to leveraging education for social upliftment.

In her personal life, Sharon values a balanced lifestyle, finding solace and rejuvenation in yoga, reading, and hiking. Her diverse interests and achievements reflect a deep commitment to her field, a passion for continuous learning, and a heartfelt connection to the world around her.

Nabil Rafat -Analyst

Originally a native of Bærum, Norway, Nabil arrived in
Canada in 2016 after having lived internationally for over a decade. Passionate about finding building and developing businesses to succeed in highly competitive markets, he joined Birch + Bond in 2019.

Nabil’s interests are depository financial institutions and global macroeconomic policy. Nabil graduated with distinction from the Smith School of Business at Queen's University with a Bachelor of Commerce.

Fluent in English, Arabic, Norwegian, French, Hebrew and Farsi.
